Fresh off of its sale last summer from the Ford Motor Company to Tata Motors, the iconic British car company, Jaguar, is working diligently on updating its model line. Building on the successful launch last year of the Jaguar XF, the car company has two new models which they plan on releasing later this year at 2010 models. Both cars – the XKR and XFR — were introduced at the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.

Mike O’Driscoll, Managing Director of Jaguar Cars said: “We’ve started 2009 with the introduction of an advanced new generation engine that set new benchmarks in terms of performance, economy and efficiency. The 2010 XFR will be powered by the all-new supercharged 510bhp V8 with acceleration from 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds, which will make the car the fastest Jaguar sports sedan. A naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, producing 385bhp, powers the XF Portfolio and Premium models. XF retains the 4.2-liter V8 from the previous year.

Distinguished by unique exterior and interior design features, the XFR includes revised bumpers and lower front air intakes, sill extensions, hood louvers and grilles, four tailpipes, a trunk-lid spoiler, unique seats and 20-inch alloy wheels.

Both new engines for the XF range have highly competitive fuel economy and CO2 emissions figures. The 5.0-liter naturally aspirated XF delivers combined average fuel consumption of 25.4mpg while the XFR delivers 22.5mpg.

For the next XK and XKR Coupe and Convertibles, all-new V8 engines are being made available, powerplants which are expected to deliver more power and performance with greater efficiency. The all-new AJ-V8 Gen III direct-injection engines are the most advanced and efficient direct-injection engines Jaguar has ever produced.

The XKR features a 5.0-liter supercharged AJ-V8 Gen III delivering 510bhp, 461lb-ft of torque and propels to 60mph in just 4.6 seconds while the XK Portfolio features a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated AJ-V8 Gen III delivering 385bhp, 380lb-ft of torque and propels to 60mph in just 5.2 seconds.

Both models have improved fuel economy and CO2 emissions and meet US ULEV II/Tier 2 Bin 5 emissions regulations.

Clearly, Jaguar is heading in the right direction with its model lines, offering more powerful, but fuel efficient and clean burning engines than ever before. No longer just a niche player, the XFR and XKR will help Jaguar compete against the best that Mercedes, Lexus, BMW and Infiniti have to offer, rock solid premium cars with a distinct British pedigree.

Ford Motor Company may have found the new owner of their Premiere Automotive Group (PAG) members Jaguar and Land Rover by the time it releases its third-quarter report this coming October, The International Herald reported Tuesday.

Ford is still hoping to receive more offers for the two British luxury brands before September 30 comes. Ford wants to find the new owner of these two brands so they can decide on who wins the bid within two weeks prior to the date. This was revealed by a person close to the company last Monday.

Ford is reportedly set to sell both Jaguar and Land Rover this coming October.

The Dearborn automaker normally releases its third quarter financial results October every year. Last year’s report was out by October 23. Observers are expecting to see a deal for both Jaguar and Land Rover by the time the automaker releases its third quarter report this year.

Tom Hoyt, a Ford spokesman was quoted saying Monday, “We have simply said that while we’ve set no timetable on these discussions, that we expect to come to a resolution by the end of this year, or early next year.”

Ford will choose the owner of these brands this coming mid-October but the deal may not be closed before the year ends, an insider reportedly said.

One of the major reasons why the company decided to sell their brands this October is reportedly because of the credit squeeze which swept the capital market just recently. The transactions are delayed and may fall apart because of this matter.

Last month, Ford was reported talking to other parties about their PAG brands and has also already reported to have started a strategic review on Volvo, also one of the members of PAG. This was the first time Ford has announced their plans to shed out the brand which was acquired in 1999. Land Rover was acquired in 2000 while Jaguar was bought in 1990.

Cerberus Capital Management bought DaimlerChrysler’s Chrysler Group last month and has also been reported to have expressed interest on jaguar and Land Rover. Though these brands are equipped with excellent parts like at par with competitors equipped with parts like Cadillac catalytic converter, they have not been particularly lucrative for the US automaker.

Another possible future owner of Jaguar and Land Rover is reportedly TPG, an investment group run by Jim Coulter and David Bonderman.

I’m thinking of applying for the jaguar Landrover engineering apprentice scheme but need to know what the salary is – it’s just advertised as ‘competitive’. Has anybody been on this appreticeship or know somebody who has and know what the salary is? Thanks!

Well a Ford apprenticeship is between 27000 and 30000 pounds OTE (On Target Earning) and as Ford is a competitor to Jaguar they would be near the same price range.
